Tariffs imposed on the three Chinese manufacturers in the sample as of Thursday are 17% for BYD cars, 18.8% for Geely cars and 35.3% for SAIC cars. Other companies that cooperate during the investigation will be subject to a customs duty of 20.7 percent. Following the individual review request, a 7.8 percent tariff will be applied to Tesla cars. All other companies that cooperate during the investigation will face tariffs of 235.3%.
The European Commission announced the additional tariffs following an investigation that accused Beijing of subsidizing domestic producers. electric vehicles (EV) and therefore disrupts the EU market.
In parallel, the EU and China continue to work to find alternative solutions to the problems identified in the investigation in accordance with the regulations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In addition, the European Commission remains open to negotiating price commitments with individual exporters to the extent that EU and WTO regulations allow this.
