Last week the Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) said a single case of the Clade 1b variant of the mpox virus had been confirmed in London.
The institution has now announced that there are two more cases among the contacts of the first case.
The last two patients are under specialist care at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London.
“The risk to the UK population remains low,” UKHSA said.
The first case detected in London last week was a person on holiday in Africa. He developed flu-like symptoms within 24 hours of returning to the UK, followed by a rash that worsened over the following days.
Contacts of all three cases are being traced and will be offered testing and vaccination as appropriate, the agency said.
