(Reuters) – HSBC Holdings named insider Pam Kaur its first woman chief financial officer on Tuesday, filling the vacancy left by the promotion of Georges Elhedery to chief executive earlier this year.
Chief risk and compliance officer Pam Kaur, 60, joined HSBC in April 2013 as group head of internal audit.
Kaur previously held senior positions at leading global banks, including global chief compliance officer for Citigroup’s consumer banking business and global head of group audit for Deutsche Bank.
The appointment is part of the 160-year-old lender’s focus on continuity as it transitions from restructuring to growth, amid rising risks from geopolitical tensions and the end of interest rate hikes.
Jon Bingham, the Group’s interim CFO, will return to the position of Global Financial Controller, HSBC announced.
“We had a strong pipeline of internal and external candidates to choose from, and Pam was an exceptional candidate we could recommend to the Board,” HSBC Group CEO Georges Elhedery said in a statement.
