The Ghana Post Company recently launched what it termed the first-ever crypto stamp to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of a ceremonial ruler in Ghana. The managing director of the Ghana Post Company asserted that the crypto stamps would act as a bridge, linking the older and younger generations of Ghana.

Crypto Stamp to Be Traded as NFT

The Ghanaian postal company recently launched what is being described as the first-ever crypto stamp to commemorate the ascension of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the Asantehene throne. The crypto stamp, reportedly traded as a non-fungible token (NFT) on crypto markets, bears the images of the Asantehene, the ceremonial ruler of the Ashanti people today.

Commenting on the milestone, Bice Osei Kuffour, the managing director of Ghana Post Company Ltd, said the stamp celebrates the Ghanaian traditional leader’s 25 years in power. He added that the unveiling of the digital stamp also aids in preserving the Asantehene’s heritage.

“Today, as we unveil the commemorative stamps dedicated to His Majesty’s reign, we affirm our commitment to innovation and excellence in preserving our nation’s stories and delivering them to the world,” Kuffour said.

The head of the Ghana Post Company also claimed that the crypto stamps will serve as a bridge, connecting Ghana’s older and younger generations.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana’s Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, praised the Ghana Post Company for launching the commemorative stamps. Owusu-Ekuful added:

This commemorative stamp, is therefore, a reflection of our national pride and identity, and serves as a reminder of the inextricable link between our traditional values and our wild anticipations, reminding us that our rich cultural heritage is the foundation on which our nation’s future is built.

According to a report in Graphic Online, Ghana Post Company has unveiled four additional types of stamps, along with the crypto stamps. These stamps serve a dual purpose: preserving the legacy of the Ghanaian royal family and promoting the West African nation globally.
