Private sector companies added 233,000 jobs in October, payroll firm ADP reported on Wednesday.
The figure far exceeds economists’ estimates of 114,000 jobs and a larger-than-expected September gain of 143,000 jobs.
“Even despite the recovery from the hurricane, job gains were strong in October,” said Nela Richardson, ADP chief economist. “As the year ends, U.S. employment appears solid and overall resilient.”
Meanwhile, the number of job postings fell to its lowest level since January 2021. By the last day of September, the number of job postings fell by 418,000 to 7.443 million, the lowest level in more than three and a half years, according to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. said Tuesday in its job openings and employee turnover study, known as JOLTS Report.
