US Election: The TikTok generation heads to the polls. How does social networking influence choice?

Aidan Kohn-Murphy, founder of the organization Gen-Z for Change, explains to CNN how TikTok has become an important platform for informing young people about candidates.

“Information spreads peer-to-peer, which allows young people to become more involved in supporting candidates,” he says.

An interesting phenomenon is the way TikTok brings old scandals back into focus. “I was in grades 5-7 when the Access Hollywood tape featuring Trump came out. Many of us have become desensitized to his shocking revelations, but young people votenow for the first time these scandals are new and shocking,” explains the activist.

The issues young voters are most concerned about include climate change, reproductive rights, gun violence and Biden’s attitude towards Israel.

Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump focused their campaign efforts on this generation who could turn the tide of the election.
